Heartfelt Thank You for our Traffic Calming Efforts

Hey there, neighbors!

I hope you're all doing well in our wonderful community of Williams Park.  As we near the completion of the sidewalk on Roswell St, and the removal of the curved intersection next to the cookie store, and music school I thought it was a great time to express our deepest gratitude to the City of Smyrna and our neighborhoods council member, Travis Lindley. They've been exceptional in making our neighborhood a safer and more peaceful place to live, and we couldn't be more thankful for their efforts over the past couple of years.

Several years ago, Keith Bentley and Stephen McQuade led the charge along with several other neighbors to create a list of traffic calming measures they wished to have implemented in the neighborhood.  Unfortunately, despite their best efforts and rock-solid approach the right people weren’t in place to hear their requests and act.  It wasn’t until a new regime at the City and an open-minded Travis took office that Williams Park started to be heard and action started to be taken.

Safety has always been a top concern for us, and it's so reassuring to see that the City and Travis took our worries to heart. They worked strategically with us to find the best traffic calming solutions to make our streets safer for everyone. We've seen some remarkable changes, and it's made a world of difference.

We are super proud of all the measures that have taken place and listed below.

·      Roswell St Traffic Calming – Center road median, and choker.

·      Sidewalk connection – East Side of Roswell st from Spring to Highland Ave.

·      Road realignment at the intersection of Roswell, Old Roswell, and Highland.

·      RR Crossing at Atlanta Rd – Better signage, striping and lane blockers/dividers – BIG IMPROVEMENT

·      Stop Signs

o   Hawthorne/Reed, Spring/Walker, Mathews/Walker, Mathews/Whitfield, Roswell/Windy Hill Pl, Gilbert/Rileys Walk.

·      Addition to traffic calming.

o   Mt. Zion Cemetery - $100k project

o   Durham Park - $70k project

I also want to thank each of you who filled out a survey, raised your hand at a meeting or sent an email to myself of Travis, as this list doesn’t happen without a collective voice from all of you.  Your voice gave WPN and Travis the data and reasoning to sell our ideas to the City and have them implemented.

The best part of all of this is that the changes they made have brought us all closer together. Our community spirit has skyrocketed because we're all feeling safer and more connected. Kids can now play outside without us worrying too much, and we've got more time to chat with our neighbors during our evening walks.

As we continue this journey together, let's keep supporting our local leaders who genuinely care about our well-being.  It's these partnerships and hard work that make our neighborhood special.

Let's be proud of these peaceful roads we now have and let it be a reminder of what we can do when calm, rational voices work together and build a brighter future for our community.

A little gratitude goes a long way. Please consider leaving a comment sharing your appreciation to The City for investing in our community.
